Mardi Gras Sketch ideas

This post is going to be a long one so try to bear with me and my idea ramblings.

I mainly focused on a few different aspects on the mardi gras poster that i sketched out for you. The font placement, colors, font illustrations, and involvement with New Mexico.

1. Font placement:
    - I did numerous font placement that went on each idea so that it would cause a equal balance between the background image and the text. the placement is off and toward either the center or the right hand area, so that the image and the text will have equal areas on the page.

 2. Colors:
     - The mardi gras colors are distinguished by the hues of green, purple and gold. Through my sketches i tried to have a involvement with either the UNM colors or of the New Mexico colors. This was to break the barrier of standard colors that went with each subject that went with the word. Another idea was to not blend each color into each other. (Background blending into the font and vice versa)

3 . Font illustrations:
     - i had a few ideas that i thought was a good idea, and still is a good idea. If the background is too weak for the illustrations, one could help balance it out by creating illustraions with the information. to create a background and font flow that would work in harmony.

4. involvement with New Mexico:
     - The ideas i had to involve New Mexico are a bit rusty as i try to think of a way to incorporate both the illustration and the text to help with the idea. Though primarily it would depend on what the background would be. My idea went with font work instead as i tried to involve the colors. the event which its being held at (A.K.A. the University) had three different colors i tried to involve the text with, Lobo colors seem to connect with the piece and where its being held but something seems to be off on that color scheme. Another idea i had was to involve certain aspects of New Mexico. Such as the stairs of the mountains one would need to climb in order to visit ones ancestors teachings high atop the mountain.

These are the ideas I have been toying with and the involvement of the text. As with most sketches i will find a much suitable type font that will be he final choice for the background design and font compilation. if you have any questions or feedback on the sketchs with both the hand drawn or digital version, please refer to it as: (Handdrawn: ?/5 and Digital ?/4) It will be clear to both the feedbacker and the creator. Feedback time is now, start typing.

  1. Of all your designs, I would really like to see how the handdrawn "idea 4" would look if it was taken furhter. That is the only one not digitized.

  2. You mean the wind idea correct? i do have some more ideas that could be applied to that design, but it mainly revolves around the illustration and if i get one that would work with the design it might work. depending on the colors, design, ETC, it might work. Anything else you see? i'm already working on the title so give me some time for that, i suck at sketching words. Expect a update tomorrow about that.

  3. The text could be a bit bolder for the tine ones. Make sure to put emphasize on the date and school name. Those first two digital concepts are hard to see even with a screen. Make the text bigger and even some kerning could help with bigger font sizes. I like how there is a flow and rhythm to the text. I feel like there will be a mask in the third one so I'll make sure to make a mask with a headdress to fit that one. The only problem here is that your text is too small.

  4. All the ideas are great with their simplicity but I would choose to maybe add an outline to the gold colored text? That way the colors can stay & yet be easily visible.

  5. I like the red black and grey idea, because it does scream UNM more than the others yet still being festive. Good job

  6. Lobo color ones look nice and simple but its not very Mardi Gras-ish. Might want to try another typeface for the blue text with the green line. Also what's the blue line for? I like the bottom info but the gold is hard to see with the white background. Try meshing the info placement from the lobo one with your green-blue outline sketch.
